Mega Man 15th Anniversary: Ride Chaser with Axl
I can't get enough of this line, especially the newer stuff. Great sculpts, great articulation, and they aren't outrageously priced. In fact these figures are pretty cheap at $6.99 for the individual 6-inch figures, $8.99 for the larger 8-inch (?) figures and 12.99 for the vehicle/figure set reviewed here. As far as I can tell, this is just the regular 6-inch Axl figure with an additional large vehicle. As such I'll be reviewing this figure as if the bike is an accessory.

For those who are not aware, Axl is the new playable character added for Mega Man X7. Actually, since I haven't played X7 myself I can't really go into much more detain than that. I have seen screen shots and artwork from the game and this figure is an accurate representation of the character. In fact this is probably the best figure from this line that I'e seen so far. Axl stands about six and a quarter inches tall and is primarily colored blue. There are additional red stripes all over his armor as well. The basic design is what you'd expect from a Mega Man character, huge boots and forearms, the standard helmet shape, the same all around proportions. He also has a large spiky burst of Orange hair sticking out from his helmet and a pair of long white spikes hanging off his back.
Articulation is pretty much the same as what has been present in the rest of the figures. Elbows, shoulders, knees, hips, waist, neck, ankles, wrists, all more or less universal or ball style joints. The ball hips seem to pop free more easily than on my other Mega Man figures on this guy though. I'm probably just trying to force poses on the figure that it's not actually capable of making. The articulation does allow him to easily sit on the bike, though stand is probably more accurate. He doesn't really sit on the bike but I'd say it was designed to work that way more than being a flaw in the design.
As far as accessories, other than the bike, Axl includes a pair of pistols. Unlike most Mega Man characters, Axl doesn't use a blaster. The pistols are really nice and look great in Axl's hands. I imagine the individual carded figure also includes some sort of PVC enemy as well. Instead you get a large bike with your Axl figure. Actually the way it's described on the package it's more like you get an Axl figure with your large bike.

This bike is indeed large at 14 inches long and 4.5 inches wide (6.5 inches if you count the wings). The design is really angular and aerodynamic; it strongly resembles the speeder bikes that appear in many of the Mega Man X games (as it is probably supposed to). The bike consists of a large solid front nose section that is mostly green and has a long triangular shape and a rear section that is hollow on the bottom with two large disk wheels attached to the other side. The tail section is mostly light blue with dark blue wings and center mass. Like I mentioned, the rider doesn't really sit on it so much as stand while leaning forward. It's closer to being a kneel really. The bike looks like it could take two riders but the design of the figures doesn't allow this. The boots are too big and the hip joints are too restricted. Other figures can ride the bike as the driver however.
The bike also includes a gimmick. The solid front section houses a friction motor and has a single wheel sticking out on the bottom. When you push the bike forward it zooms along the floor pulling itself along while making a "High Speed Sound" (from the box). The sound isn't actually electronic or anything like that, it'˘s actually more of a side effect noise from the friction motor. The gimmick works really well though.
Overall, Both the bike and figure are really great. I guess is depends on how much you want a bike accessory on whether or not you want the set or not. The Axl figure is great though, the design of the character is really slick and the sculpt and paint are top notch. If you're not into vehicles for your figures you could probably pass on the bike set and just get the singular figure.
