Twilight X Volume 2
Referenced from time to time in different Antarctic Press titles (like Gold Digger for instance), you’ve probably wondered what’s up with this whole Twilight X title… right? Well I have, I have. And now… now I know.
From Joesph Wight, Twilight X takes place after 11 years of World War III, leaving the Earth in bad shape. The back of the book tells you how the survivors of the third world war have been left to struggle against hostile forces fighting over the remains of civilization, but for the trio who star in this book that isn’t as important as fighting for their own basic survival against people out to steal their detonators at any cost… oh, and they also must battle against the enemies of BBQ who don’t know BBQ+Gasoline don’t equate.
Lovely couple Jed & Toots, along with fifth wheel former Israel Special Forces Goldman end up tangled up with the strange forces of The White American Nationalist Klan (otherwise known to the monied TV media as the “racially insensitive”) over a batch of detonators. They are so hellbent on getting these detonators they are even willing to kidnap poor (only female lead character) Toots in exchange for the detonators. Most of the story is the quest to save Toots from her captors, which follows up with a short story at the end with the pick-me-up of a brand new female traveling companion.
What happens next after that, however, requires picking up Twilight X Volume 3, which I still need to get ahold of. Oh well. That’s something for my pick-up list.
Hmm… despite the fact the main female lead is gone for most of the volume I am looking forward to Volume 3, and seeing an entire volume with her involved in the story (as well as the new female companion and this plot twist in the story). Drawing is not too nice but it’s got that quirkiness that makes it great. Writing is solid, characters you can really get into (even if Toots is not about most of the story) and an overall solid delivery here.
Now if I can only find Volume 3 then I can do another review. It’s on my to do list. But this is a keeper, nice work Mr. Wight (now I definitely have to read more). For the future then (hmm… wait… didn’t I read something about a new release of Twilight X issues coming soon if it’s not coming out already) I give Twilight X Volume 2 a nice solid score of 4 Toots out of 5 hellllllooooo nurses (in one naked female doctor at the end of Volume 2).
