By all that’s unholy! The 70’s are BACK as of this cover!! (Serenity! Take that off! Don’t you know John Travolta’s a Scientologist!! That’s a religion allegedly form Alpha Centauri isn’t it?)

But it’s just not on the cover (and it’s tribute to Saturday Night Fever, though for the record Serenity never actually dons the whites of future Scientologist John Travolta!) it’s also on the inside as Serenity takes some time to hang with her pals of the Prayer Club, only later for her to receive most shocking news that her friends may not even LIKE her… which quickly rings false faster than you can proclaim that the movie based on the writing of L. Ron Hubbard SUCKED!!

Why? Well before we do that let’s recap the highlights.
After being a full time working girl after her misadventures driving Kimberly’s car in Volume 2 (and thus taking on a job just to repay her “debt” to Kimberly’s car) she’s finally beginning to burn out from all the work. Maybe a little retro party with her new pal Lori can change things (or just bum her out more as she realizes just how tight Kimberly and Derek are)?

After that, and an embarrassing incident with her mom, Serenity has a long heartfelt heart to heart chat with her friend Lori… and let me reemphasize that statement, SERENITY HAS A LONG HEARTFELT HEART TO HEART CHAT WITH HER FRIEND LORI!!

Later on in this Volume Lori tries to tell her the Prayer Club LOVES (as in platonically we love everyone because we’re Christians) LOVE but they do not LIKE (as in we’re close and good friends) LIKE… then she says she had to tell Serenity because she’s her friend… yeah, she’s talking in circles now.

Just for the record, Serenity, she makes no sense because this one scene (and the volume as a whole) says that Lori so likes you, Serenity, and if she’s saying otherwise then she’s so lying (and yes, if we follow Lori’s logic from the online chat scene then she is so doing the sin thing for lying to Serenity)!

However it seems Lori isn’t the only one with an eye out for Serenity, as Serenity finds herself in good fortune with a weekend off (rare) which means she can go to this Christian rave event going on (with abit of a revelation going on with Tim, future indy film director as of Volume 7 to 10, and his own feelings towards dating). However as the Rave is on two guys looking to sell poison as drugs to make money to leave town crash the Rave, only for the two losers to realize they are trapped in “The Rave from Heaven”… oh, and Serenity totally turns down drugs despite the fact she is a recovering addict. Guess somebody had her back… though, and boo on you Mr. Dixon, don’t go telling me Lori ain’t liking Serenity just for Serenity to come to the realization (as she tries to sleep) that she turned down drugs without a second thought! Not buying it!

Other than that unbelievable plot twist (because we forget about the non liking thing as of next volume when Serenity goes on that skiing trip with the prayer club) it’s all good. Wow, if you didn’t remember up until now that Serenity is a former drug user then this should get you to remember that!

Now stop telling me at least Lori and Sally don’t like Serenity, ‘cause I kinow better! I know better… otherwise yeah, Kimberly doesn’t like Serenity, Derek is creeped out by her maybe, and the rest is neutral. But Lori/Sally? Total like.

Because of that, the improved artwork and strong writing (and solid story all about on all ends) I’m giving this one 5 like likes out of 5 rave raves.
