First Look at Nana V. 3

How oh how can two oh so completely polar opposite Nanas end up under the same roof in Tokyo (let alone star in a well done successful live action theatrical version which is now filming a sequel)?
You would never ever believe that they could ever meet, let alone pair off as roommates, considering how their stories began when we first looked at Nana V. 1-2.

When we started you met Nana Komatsu, she whose life (as the first volume began) went straight into the (bleep)er, down to hell in a handbasket, etc. thanks to a mysterious evil she calls her Demon Lord of Terror. But then again considering what her life was like before the beginning of the book she was already well on her way to hell in a love motel bed before her “boyfriend” (a 20ish male who used her for sex) dumped her.
Things only get worst as her motivation to go to Tokyo is not exactly the “high road” of reasons, which can only burn her severely as Volume 4 rolls around, but that’s another story.

Then we meet Nana Otaski, she whose life was beginning to turn around as she began to consider the rebirth of BLAST (Black Stones), and the return of Nana O onto the rock stage. Yeah, she’s still not over Ren dumping her and running off to Tokyo but she may be on her way to getting over it, if only a few more things fell into place for her overall life and ambitions… which may happen right now.
So sit back, make your sacrifices to the Demon Lord of Terror, and let’s see where we are with Nana V. 3 as we take this first look.

It looks like the fortunes of the two Nanas are about to go up and down like a runaway rollercoaster.
Nana O is on the high road as she is about to see the rebirth of BLAST, with old members returning to the fold (san that loser Ren guy) and a new replacement for Ren signing onto the reborn Black Stones.
With their music getting better by the day, and their first live performance in Tokyo set for Volume 4, things can only get better for the life of Nana O.

However if Nana O is on the high road to success it looks like Nana K (aka Hachi) is on the rough rollercoaster ride of ups and downs.
First she nearly goes broke and loses her first job, only to rebound when a big amount of money is put into her account thanks to her mom.
Then she discovers said money was put in because her mom thought she eloped with her boyfriend Shoji, which may not be true anymore now that Shoji is straying from Nana with a girl named… Sachiko?!? Ack! Bad luck! Bad luck!
Then Nana gets a new job, which turns out to suck more than a porn star, but she needs it to build up her money to get that ultimate wedding and perfect life.

Overall Volume 3 has Nana K’s life take the rocky road, but hopefully in the end things will work out and she and Shoji can work things out together.
Then Shoji jumps in the sack with Sachiko shagging her, which leaves everything tethering on a mini cliffhanger ending that puts Nana’s relationship on the critical list as Volume 3 heads towards Volume 4.
But that’s next time when I give you the full review.

Sadly it’s going to be a few more weeks before Nana V. 3 becomes available for purchase, but as soon as possible you should reserve your copy and grab this up ASAP. Nana continues to rule, and I can’t wait to see where the title goes with Volume 4... Oh, and I can’t wait to officially get Volume 3 for my collection (content from Shojo Beat 2-1 to 2-4). Nana the manga and Nana the Live Action movie are my two reviewing addictions I need filled ASAP, though for the time being it looks like I‘m only going to get the manga to fill my need (please translate Nana the Movie for R1 release)

Long story short (yes, I know, too late) if you haven’t already guessed this, Nana is so for you. Catch the wave already.
