Do we need another askewly twisted romance story? Yes, yes we do. Now sit down and behave because the follies of a guy and the woman he can apparently switch bodies with is indeed worth talking about… really.

Yes, VIZ isn’t the only people who can turn out a good shojo romance on a dime. TOKYOPOP, their major competition, has their own lovely titles to hype about… like this.
To say Kohamaru’s family is abit… off… is like saying the three ring circus of the monied media’s obsession with Anna Nicole Smith’s “future” post her passing away is not normal (even for them). Kohamaru’s family apparently has a not so conventional means of figuring out who their soulmate is, and that is the ability to switch bodies between themselves and their chosen soulmates! Yeah… I think I saw a hentai anime with that in it but that’s way different… there was no geneaology involved in the bodyswapping, but let’s not ponder that further. So what can go wrong when your family can body swap with their soulmates (and his aunt can swap bodies with her cat because… because… the cat is her soulmate?) and you can do the same thing with your soulmate… how about finding out your soulmate is so not into you. One day Kohamaru litterly runs into a girl named Nanao, and they end up body switching when their lips touch… and once he figures out he’s now a she Nanao grabs him in her body and attempt to wring the life out of him… her… him/her… while threatening him… I mean her… I mean… whatever.

Obviously this isn’t going to be total Tomoyo loves Sakura at first sight with these two. Definitely not. First off let’s start with the fact that this is the first time this happened to him, and he knew nothing of this prior to this moment… so it takes awhile to fix this problem, and he has to go on a little “date” for Nanao before they finally get their bodies back which doesn’t endear him to her anymore than he was already striking out since she kinda has this whole meltdown about her first “kiss” and all that.
Can things get worst? Yes, yes they can. Once he gets home he figures out what’s going on and… well… it doesn’t look good for him. Doesn’t help any with Nanao already loving someone else… oh, and this sucks because that someone else happens to be Kohamaru’s brother Konatsu who can reverse their body swap with his own kiss… eew! Obviously this two possibly future love struck couple are going to be seeing lots of each other, whether they want to see lots of each other or not. That can’t be good.
Love triangle? You betcha! Is it worth reading… there’s the thing.

I… hmm… is it becoming old if I keep saying I like series like this? I guess not but one more time then, because it is good… to a point. Of course it would help if you like shojo romantic comedy books like I do, otherwise just jumping into this without previously having any real taste for this genre may not be the best thing for you. Otherwise is this a series to jump into the genre feet first on… maybe not, but it is high on my list of first tastes if you are curious… just, you know, remember there are more titles out there to read (and give your first try with) if this is not a total sell for you. Still even if it is abit formulatic it is still a good read all the same the way it rolls out in this first volume taste that is like a soft warm kiss… yes, that was on purpose. Sorry. Anyway where was I… oh, the score.

Metamo Kiss is written well enough (a tad formulatic and predictable in places but that doesn’t mean it’s not good), and it’s drawn nicely. Overall? A title that has potential and I am looking forward to seeing what happens when Volume 2 rolls around (hopefully it wears out it‘s formulatic moments and becomes more and more innovative as the story rolls along). Metamo Kiss Volume 1 gets 4 wet kisses on the lips out of 5.
