When it comes to reviewing titles the easiest thing to review should be, by all rights, an Art Book. It’s just images, right? Well… a good art book should be more than just pretty pictures (if you remember my review of World of Disgaea then you remember why I praised that to a 5 out of 5)... Huh? Why did I like The World of Disgaea so much? Mostly because it was an art book, a sourcebook of the original Disgaea video game, and full of interesting content to boot!

So when I got ahold of The King of Fighters Art Collection I was interested in seeing what kind of content this had, and if it’d be as great as World of Disgaea… well, it is full of pretty pictures… did I mention it’s an Art Book?

I don’t know, this is my first time reviewing an art book so I guess this is what you’re buying and all, but somehow I wanted more. More informational content, more behind the scenes info on how the various images came to be or any cute little stories about the images. Something. However it’s straight images with a small little bit of info and that’s it. Nothing more and nothing less.

Of course if it was just that I’d have nothing more to say, but the art book is great… if you’re a female fan. For ever one image with the female characters (and the very very rare occasional sexy female image) there’s a ton of male character imagery (and more male posing well than female). So, you know, if you are a fan of the male characters of King of Fighters or just a fan of tough guy male fighting characters then you’re going to be loving this book… artworks nice as well, very pretty and oh so beautiful if you’re a King of Fighters fan… or a handsome man pic fan…. Those are two things that could draw you to this, yes.

Otherwise the info is just abit weak, just images without much context, and I wanted more content and would have loved a richer amount of info than just this was a comic image from 2001 or 2002 or 2003.

So if I have complaints about the read why is it getting a 4 out of 5?
Because it is perfect at what it is, a fine collection of beautiful artwork celebrating King of Fighters and if you are a fan you should have this book in your collection. Of course you’re just buying it for the pretty artwork since there’s nothing past this… maybe somebody needs to open a Facebook page, post the images and then post a ton of information on the images so we’d know more about them.
That’d be nice, wouldn’t it. Oh, and more sexy images of the female characters would be nice while I’m at it. Maybe DRMaster Books can do an art book of just the sexy female artwork? That’d be nice.

Otherwise for a job well done (if not leaving one wanting more) The King of Fighters Art Book gets 4 lovely man images out of 5.
