Gold Digger #84
By David Rasmussen 17th May 07 Dreams. They provide comfort, reprise, reflection, insight, the occasional scare, and I own the rights to my own Realm of Dreams… but that’s not important. Until I publish, then it’ll be really important, but until then let’s talk dreams… as it is right now the only way a distant Britanny can keep in touch with her husband and daughter who are far away from her. As the beginning of the 2nd Quarter of Gold Digger kicks off, we find that Ancient Gina (Aygee to Tiffany on Gina’s insistance) has created a machine to keep Britanny and her loved ones in touch… to a point. However she seems to have neglected to have her contact her past self, Brianna, her mom and dad, and whoever else I’m forgetting. Why? I don’t know, I just hope it doesn’t mark a bad sign of things to come. But since we’re not thinking of negativity on this most heartfelt and touching of stories, let’s forego the conspiracy theories and focus on the story. Britanny and Tiffany are fishing when Ancient Gina and one more (once you get into this storyarc you’ll get to know this person better) drop in to visit. As they talk the subject of a special movie (Robotech : Do You Remember Love?… or was it Macross : Do You Remember Love… one of those), Britanny mentions showing the movie while they’re in this dream state, but what comes up is a special GD -18 comic which shows what Britanny and Gina dreamed about as kids… which seemingly involves Robotech meets Star Blazers meets Star Wars Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back meets The Dog Whisperer… as the two sisters are confronted by the largest most vicious french poodle ever… WAITAMINUTE!! Didn’t they talk about a french poodle when Genn turned into a hot female were poodle girl thing and promptly got snatched up by Dog Grande (from Ninja High School) who had a cameo in that hentai porn Ninja High School parody “NOT Ninja High School”… point is the poodle look looked cuter on Genn than on the actual dog. Anyway it’s a touching story, we get a brand spankin’ new GD -18 story, and a hint of Britanny’s true capability as she remembers something that hasn’t come up before. Oh, and while Charlotte is on the cover she doesn’t actually appear in the issue until the very end (sporting a Robotech Season 1 slash Macross helmet, as well as a Peebo in the same look). Long story short. Another excellent story, this one being both touching and heartfelt as Britanny bonds with her daughter and she gets to see a bit of what we’ve seen so far with GD -18... Good thing Gina didn’t give birth to a child the same time as Britanny since she may have ended up attempting to “puff” Tiffany much as how Gina did to Britanny when she was young (so not cool). One of the greatest AmeriMangas out now, Gold Digger is solid. Fred Perry is here, his greatest series with his greatest characters are here, where are you? Gold Digger #84 gets 5 hopes for the eventual “return” of Britanny to Earth out of 5. Gold Digger is ™ & © Fred Perry
