Gold Digger Max Volume 1

Half of the book is the content of two Gold Digger/Ninja High School crossovers.
Starting off it’s “A Science Affair”, where (while looking for a diamond filled temple) Gina and Britanny run into the worst ever evil Elvis ever seen. I mean, come on, no mentions of “mama”, not many references to King Pop Culture or anything? Come on, Spellvis could have been better, admit it.
Well it seems Spellvis here is out to grab the gimpy kid who is so NOT Jeremy Feeple (“Phrank”?), who happens to transform into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Knockoff #180561 (how many Power Ranger type series has there been throughout all of eternity again?!?). He’s not alone, by the way, as these other aliens (who resemble a Power Ranger knockoff villains and… Destro from GI Joe? Hope not.) are also out to get him… why? I don’t care.

Anyway this Phrank guy is stuck on a field trip to a science fair with two hot cold blooded mildly interesting but he’ll get nowhere with her women (you can sort which is which yourself), and during the course of the fair (two or so pages into it) his science project (a complete waste of space and human evolution) is destroyed when Gina falls out of a portal that forms in the air and plops her butt on his project.
(Yes I do know that’s a lot of words to chew on for one breath… chew slowly.)

Gina stays to fix the project from the abyss while Britanny goes off to become the poster girl for Dr. Phil’s people who can’t control their own credit episode. That doesn’t last long as the Sentinel that harassed Jubilee when she was living out of that mall in California shows up, and kicks off a chain reaction that leads to a mall wide conflict with everyone and their fifth cousin jumping into the fray.

Next up is a crossover between Asrial (Ninja High School) and Cheetah (Britanny) as they come together over the location of what may be the Fountain of Youth, and an Salusian (one of Asrial’s species) who may be really really old, and really really horny (which triggers a standstill draw battle between the two female leads). But none of this is as important as this brings forth the “Borg” of the Gold Digger Universe… no, they’re not cyborgs but they are relentless, seemingly unstoppable… and they have the ability to be repeat villains. But that’s for the review of Gold Digger Volume 9, stay tuned.

Next is GD-18, the youth of Gina and Britanny. Reprints, it has abit of stories of their youth including the origin of the Lich King and the tearjerker aftermath story (bring a kleenex).

Finally Gina/Britanny are invited over to Gina’s former rival Penny’s pad, only to find a strange “alien” that seemingly tried to “assimilate” Penny (she’s fine), which leads to the beginning of the awakening of creatures codenamed “Betas” (of which 20 seem to exist, one dealt with in this volume).
Then the volume ends.

Breakdown will be quick.
In the end, with all said and done, I’m going to give Max the same score I’ve given other Golden Age Gold Digger mangas to date. Yes. That’s another 5 out of 5 going out. Enjoy.
