Gold Digger II #81 to #83
By David Rasmussen 17th May 07 2006 saw the 15th Anniversary of Fred Perry’s Gold Digger, not quite a Silver Anniversary (25th) and nowhere near the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek's (The Original Series or TOS) longevity, but a vital celebration, nevertheless. But it is now 2007, and as we enter the year’s first review of the new batch of Gold Digger issues we find ourselves maybe coming close to the return of one of the iconic Gold Digger cast that has been sorely missing from the main hustle and flow of the series for sometime… mainly Britanny’s hopeful return from her “exile”. Huh? What? She’s gone? Yeah, I was shocked too, but remember I’m just wrapping my reading of the Golden Era of Gold Digger so I am so totally behind on the Second Age of Gold Digger. Apparently sometime ago Britanny was trapped in quasi-space (first with her daughter Tiffany but now with “Ancient Gina”, who apparently comes from an alternate future, her “status” as either good or evil a questionable thing at present) as her family back in our reality struggle to bring her home. Thus we come to this story, and a turning point. What does the childhood theft by Gina of money have to do with the here and now? It seems that former rival Penny Pincer has come across something that could make the rescue of Britanny a here and now reality, only to make this happen a little bit of thievery is required… thievery that goes badly as Gina ends up going to jail and standing trial for the theft. This quarter’s issue covers the theft, the prison time and the trial itself (OBJECTION!)… yeah, I’m still on the whole Phoenix Wright thing… anyway as you get through Issue #83 and the trial you’ll find this isn’t a mere “parody” of jail/court storylines as Issue #82 has some vicious stuff, and Brianna’s ending speech is enough to make Patrick Stewart cry. And just so you know, the trial ends with two years community service which will be served AFTER the whole situation with Britanny is resolved… I think. Hmm… darn my indecisiveness. Guess you’ll just have to read it yourself to see if I was right or not. But regardless of that have we finally come to the point where the light at the end of the tunnel over this whole situation is visible. And is that light really the end… or the light of an oncoming train. Guess only the 2nd Quarter of Gold Digger will come close to answering some of those questions. Worst case scenario? We’re not going to see an end to this until the 100th Issue, and that’s in 2008. So until then we’re going to just have to hang tight. But for now… here’s the breakdown. It’s the start of 2007, do you know where you are in this new era of Gold Digger? Oh, wait, you know where you are. Of course. But are you reading Gold Digger? Why not? Now heading into it’s Sweet 16 year, Gold Digger continues to be strong and vibrant as it continues to rule and with good reason. With a powerful story that continues like a well written soap opera, Gold Digger continues to be a powerful read well worth your time and effort to be into. Fred Perry continues ever onwards the series that is his trademark, continuing to craft one of the greatest AmeriManga series ever seen (of which fellow Antarctic Press’ title Ninja High School is also one of the greatest series ever). With it’s long colorful history to look back on we have over 15 years of proof that this series will be forever iconic of it‘s genre. With 50 Issues in it’s Golden Age, 84+ issues now, Crossovers, specials, sidebar series like the Swimsuit issues and so forth. That’s lots of Gold Digger for 16+ years. A series that could go on forever, and should go on forever, Gold Digger is one of the best reads you can be hooked on right now. Should be hooked on right now. Gold Digger the AmeriManga series. Well worth getting into (or back into). Nuff said. Gold Digger #81 to #83 gets 5 Gripping Courtroom Dramas out of 5. Gold Digger ® & © Fred Perry
