Wishing for a better holiday fare than what we looked at last time? This may be the book you’ve been looking for. After disappointing holiday fare with a terrible Christmas story from Sonic X #15 (reviewed a few weeks ago), it’s nice to finally get a hold of a better fare for the holidays.

Now passing its 15th Anniversary mark, Fred Perry’s Gold Digger just keeps going on and on and on (with more reviews in the coming weeks all dedicated to the series). Still, despite the fact the series is now over 15 years old, why is it we only seem to have celebrated Halloween… what, twice?!? Can’t be, but still we take what we can get (especially since we want to wash away the stigma of a bad Christmas story past) so let’s get into last October’s Gold Digger Halloween Special #2.

Three stories and several pin-ups (including a Ben Dunn one, which is sweet), but we’ll start with the last short story first.

“From HECK!”
Somebody needs to guard Brit’s candy while she’s gone to a party…. Too bad Mischief & Mayhem decide to crash the house…. Wait a sec… those names sound familiar… (checking)…. I can’t remember, but I think somebody brought them up; I’m sure it was in an interview I did once.
Anyway, moving on forward (from the back of the book to the front)…

“Decisions, Decisions”
For your sexy, fan-service story, go no further than Jessica Moffett (listed on the cover page as “Yayoi Neko”… I so need to interview her just to find out what that means) and her story of how Brianna cons Gina into helping her pick a sexy Halloween costume. For eight pages, there are sure lots of costumes and lots of near-nudity… yum.

And finally, my favorite of the book…

GD -18 (minus 18, I suppose) “Brit’s Greatest Halloween Evah!”

I don’t know, but it’s fun to see Britanny and Gina’s early adventures (and by that, I mean when they’re still kids). Sure, the only time I’ve seen them this young was a one-page trip to the dentist in Gold Digger Series 1 Volume 3, but still…. Anyway, it’s 7 more pages of youthful mischief as we come in on the tail end of a successful Halloween run with Brit and Gina feasting on the spoils, only for Brit to realize that--oh no--the “thrill” of candy is gone. Well, she IS who she is, and…. Anyway, now she has a craving for large-mouthed bass, and dad’s too exhausted from chasing after them to go to the store for fish, so somehow, the two have to improvise. Lucky for them, they have a large source of water teeming with fish right behind their house. Yes, this should truly be Brit’s Bestest Halloween Evah… if she survives it.

I don’t know what else to say, so let’s be brief and wrap it up.

What can I say? If there was any holiday-themed project that needed MORE pages, a longer length, or a Graphic Novel treatment, it was this one. I liked what I saw, wished it was longer, was sad it ended as fast as it did. Still, despite the fact it’s a short piece of joy, it’s still a joy to read.

Fred Perry came out looking for treats last Halloween, and he’s going to get a Valentine’s gift--and no, it’s not going to be a kiss; he doesn’t know where I’ve been…. So for Mr. Perry, it’s the gift that gives a perfect score, as Gold Digger Halloween Special #2 gets 5 guest appearances of Britanny the Cylon on Battlestar Galactica out of 5 (aka the gold star of highly recommended standard). Now somebody put together a big-bundle Halloween pack this year so we can see what the first Halloween special looked like! I’m curious!
