Galaxy Angel II Volume 1
By David Rasmussen 1st Mar 07 It’s been awhile since the end of Galaxy Angel Beta, hasn’t it. I didn’t review the third (and final) volume but as that series ended circumstances came about which lead to the disbanding of the original Angel team, and the start of a new one. Yeah, yeah, I know, that sounds like it sucks but wait… maybe it’s not as bad as you think… maybe. With the final defeat of the weirdo Eonia a new era of peace began, paving the way to the discovery of a gateway to a previously unknown galaxy called NEUE. With no more bad guys to fight against the original Angel Troupe disbands, and each move on in their own way (except for one). The once fiery Ranpha has seemingly mellowed out to become an ambassador between the present galaxy and the new NEUE galaxy. Vanilla is now working on building a new age of nanotechnology, which resulted in her (shockingly) “adopting” a daughter of her very own (creating?) named Namo Namo who is (surprise surprise) one of the new “Angels” who replaced the old team. Mint has gone to the dark side and seemingly abandoned her carefree cosplaying ways to become a corpo-monger like her family before her (and if someone really does become a traitor from the old team I’d look towards “Alan Spaulding” here). Forte and the new girl from Galaxy Angel Beta (who didn’t die after she fell to the dark side during Beta) are now training new recruits (some of which became the new set of Angels) and as for Mifeulle? That’s where the start of the series is. In order to reach the new galaxy of NEUE, the useage of a special gateway is needed. A gateway that, as luck would have it (and it would have to be luck) only Milfeulle can use this gateway. So she is basically trapped in the gateway “temple” controlling things, which has prompted her “husband” to find more gatekeepers to “save” her. In the meantime while she’s there she’s been picking “candidates” for the new Angel Troupe, the latest being the team’s first male member (a former master pastry chef who doesn’t understand why a pastry chef has been picked for the new Rune Angel Troupe). I don’t know, maybe you were picked for the obvious romantic triangle entanglement issues this series is about to delve into because it has this former pastry chef caught between Milfeulle’s previously unknown sister Rico (who has a problem with men hugging her… to the point of becoming violent), Vanilla’s daughter Namo Namo, and two well endowed magic users in the light haired “light” magic user Kahlua (like the liquor) and the dark haired “dark” magic user Tequila… are you kidding me? Anyway if it’s not a runaway friendly amoeba it’s the theft of one of the new Rune Angel ships (the Brave Heart, the first non emblem frame that has the ability to interact with the other emblem frames making each more powerful in turn) which leads us to our cliffhanger ending and hints of a traitor in the midst. Who is the traitor? Is there a new evil coming? Will we be making any Love Hina references next review (with this one guy and all these female co-workers)? All that and more will be explored next review, but for now… Galaxy Angel II Breakdown the 1st I know, I know, you probably miss the original Angels (though Forte is hanging about abit in this one, and Mint shows up but not the way you probably wanted to see her) but this new batch isn’t so bad. Yes, yes, they do seem more entangled in a messy possibly love triangle thing and all but it’s still a good continuation of the original series with a new cast and a smathering of old characters returning. Ending with a bit of a cliffhanger we’ll see how the series continues as we pick up again with volume 2, but for now we wrap up with a positive score of 4 overtly friendly giant amoebas out of 5.
