Es Volume 3

It has been awhile since we’ve last sat down and reviewed E’s, hasn’t it.
So let’s get back to it, shall we?

Last time out as the 2nd Volume cliffhanger we saw Kai seemingly vaporized… or was he?
Seems he’s not dead (which is good since he’s the lead of the story and all), but instead he’s now trapped deep underground with the religious zealots, the freaky evil guard people, and a vast labyrinth to explore (only it’s not as fun as that labyrinth in the movie which starred you-know-who). So all he should be doing is running for it, right? Well… not so fast. Seems while in this underground Kai hears a mysterious voice talking to him, which leads him to a bunch of psychic kids held in animal cages ala an episodes of Law & Order : Special Victims Unit (only without the appearances by either Richard Belzer or Ice-T).
So Kai’s plans to escape will have to be put on hold for a while until he figures out his priorities.

Speaking of priorities, Yuuki is lured to meet a strange (yet very sexy) female who is looking into his “magician” at his home (psychic). Yuuki is all smug because he thinks she’s gunning for Kai, and (surprise surprise) Kai is nowhere to be found (that whole problem with being “vaporized” thing). Turns out however she is NOT looking for Kai, she’s looking for Yuuki’s sister Asuka. That, by the way, doesn’t seem to last long as she suddenly becomes so protective of Asuka as the volume ends and mysterious armed men come knocking for her. Yeah, maybe she’s not such a bad person after all… maybe.

But if you think that’s the end of the volume it isn’t.
The back end of the volume has a special story, which was made prior to the series itself… sorta a “Preview” episode prior to the actual series setting down the specifics of the “world” of E’s.

Otherwise what is there to say? The series is solid, from the writing on down to the artwork, and everything is as good as it should be. No complaints from me this day, no sir, so we’re giving E’s Volume 3 a 4 out of 5. That’s good, right? Right.
