Have you ever heard it said that if you tried to appease everyone you run the chance of appeasing nobody?
That is where we started our first review of Aoi House when we first came to review it sometime in the past, a title that is supposed to appeal to BOTH male and female readers alike with male and female fan service that appeals and kinda creeps you out at the same time depending on what side of the male slash female coin you are on.

Now sit down my Yaoi pet because we return once again to the house made by Carlos with Aoi House V. 2. But first, before we go on, let me remind you once again of two losers (Alex the good looking but not all there guy, and Sandy the eternally doomed to being hit and tortured geek) who seemed to have had a disconnect with the thing called “reality” as they were thrown out of their latest college dorming arraignment after so many incidents which ended in the forced “mating” of Sandy’s pet ham-ham “Echiboo” (which is supposed to be Ebichu because Echiboo is something nasty) with one of the “authority” of the college’s hairpieces. Luckily all tests came back negative for hairpiece pregnancy.

Forced to look for new housing they decide to crash at a local anime group’s pad only to find that it’s filled with women who have the hots for hot guy on guy action (Yaoi) which starts the long insanity both good and ill which ended with a frantic fight to the finish DDR style (aka Dance Dance Revolution) which ended bad for Alex as he is now set to go on a miniature golf date with transvestite Carlos… yeah, that can’t be good no matter what a nice person Carlos may be.

Because the girls were heading out to spy on the date anyway, the mysterious shadowy figure called “Oniisan” sends the girls (and one Sandy/Echiboo tagging along) dressed up for Halloween (Anime themed style which you should be able to identify with little problem if… you know… you’re Otaku) to spy on the “lucky couple”… oh, and to keep Alex from finding out the secret of Oniisan as he finally gauges that Carlos is NOT Oniisan, whoever that is.

Next up somebody apparently is dreaming because somehow Alex suddenly sprouts sexy hair and becomes most wanted material. Really. That can’t be right.

Next up in Movie Magic somebody is making a film for a con… guess who!
This you should just see to believe because, well, it defies explanation of any logical form. But it’s all for a PS3! A PS3! Dignity, self respect and pride go out the window for the chance to win a PS3!
Oh, and the bonus fan favorite story after this one ties into the story because it is the “movie” they ended up filming at the end of this story. Hint - This volume is timely since we just saw Final Fantasy XII release as possibly the last hoorah RPG to note for the PS2

Finally it’s Christmas and the gang is snowed in somewhere… things should continue to be weird but also abit disturbing (but not in the way you think) as a surprise ending may lead to interesting events as we roll out of Volume 2 and head into 2007 and Volume 3.
But that’s in the future (bonus material and a “lost” scene closes out this volume), let’s break this one down.

Aoi House Breakdown the 2nd
What’s Hot?

The title reads like a little humor guilty pleasure filled with fan service and biting humor… and now that the title is rolling along on all cylinders it’s getting better. Nice, nice, nice, nice. And I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about my new favorite guilty pleasure now that I’m getting more into this. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap.
Sure, it still creeps me out at times but I’m getting used to that from Adam Arnold. So, yes, I still do have a soft spot for Aoi House as we roll past the second release.

What’s Not?
Now I don’t care anymore if it’s original or not… guilty pleasure is guilty pleasure. Period.
Focus on that and just that.

Moments to Remember?
Way way lots… definitely lots. You betcha. Even when it creeps me out I still approve of it, guess this title is growing on me… really.

What to Ignore?
You’d like to know, wouldn’t you.
Sorry, you’ll have to read it to find the creepy stuff.
Not that it’ll be hard to find the creepy stuff mind you.

Oh, and if you are a true blue Otaku you’ll notice all the different nods to all the different Animes including a certain somebody singing Chiyo-chan’s “Cooking is so fun” song from Azumanga Daioh episode 1 and somebody donning the costume of Sakura Kinomoto (CardCaptor Sakura) to a few references to Revolutionary Girl Utena (for starters).

I’d guess if something about this title sucks it’s that it’s not exactly going to be user friendly to mainstreamers who won’t get most of the references and in-jokes that only Otaku will understand.

Overall?
I can’t think of much else to say that I haven’t said already so I’ll just finish it off.
This time out I’ll give it 4 CardCaptor Morgans out of 5... Now if they could only have gotten Maria to dress up like Tomoyo with her trademark video camera and that’d have been so cute… and (cough cough)… uh… never mind. (Sorry, my bad, I almost went on a Sakura rant).
