If you’ve thought about it, it seems few PS2 to PSP games have done well. What with the failings of Me and My Katamari, Ape Esc-- No, no, no, don’t start crying! Don’t cry! This isn’t the end of the world… ok, considering how other PS2 to PSP translations have gone it does seem like the end of the world and all, but… ok, I’ll stop “cheering” you up and give you the scoop on the first Killzone for the PSP.

Because somebody over at Guerilla thought this would be a “good” idea, Killzone : Liberation for the PSP launches as the first of the franchise bringing the frantic fast paced action of this “HALO Killer” 3rd Person Shooter from the PS2 to the PSP… hooray? Maybe so, since (after all) nobody thought SOCOM : Fire Team Bravo sucked on the PSP, we should be so blessed with the release of Killzone : Liberation!

Once again you slap on your armor, grab your favorite weapons, and head out to smash the armies of the evil armored helmet wearing people, aka the forces of Helghast. In what seems to me to be a filler between Killzone and Killzone 2 (for the PS3), since the events of this game are supposed to be “inspired by the events in Killzone”, you continue your Helghast smashing ways as you find yourself possibly swapping places with SOCOM players in the way you approach your respective games.
Huh? Well, while SOCOM players have left the land of tactical gameplay in their PS2 SOCOM land to go over to the action shooter world of SOCOM : Fire Team Bravo, you seem to be packing up to tactical land, with a new intelligent third person camera system that allows players the opportunity to view the game through a “more tactical surveillance viewpoint” to view the actions of the Helghast and plan accordingly.
This means you should, in turn, be able to plan out a more tactical approach to each and every “lair” and stronghold of Helghast you face in the game. This hasn’t been verified yet, but it seems likely to me.

The story, yes, continues where Killzone left off, which means you’ll be once again pushing the Helghast off of wherever you are (be it the original world of Killzone or a new one), with features like access to online missions (along with your usual platter of offline missions) to keep you shooting people for hours on end. Ramp it up with your take-out box of weaponry (rumored to be inspired by modern military equipment), and the ability to slaughter up to 5 of your closest friend or frienemies (friends and enemies combined in rich person talk) in online play, you should be guaranteed a hot time in the old outpost world tonight… PROVIDED, however, that they actually made the controls work for the damn PSP and you don’t constantly have the ills of having to struggle playing a two analog stick game on a one analog nub system! (Slave the camera controls to the top L or R button please!)

You won’t have long to wait, slated for (oddly enough), a possible October 31st (litterly Halloween) release, you’ll soon be able to find out if this treat in your candy bag is frightfully good or spoiled chocolate that needs to be thrown out ASAP. Stay tuned. (Oh, expect a M for Mature rating, that’s what I’m expecting).
