By David Rasmussen 21st Mar 08 Once again we’re back to Game Gear reviews, this week’s theme being entirely set on sports or gambling related things (I.e. everything you can do or bet on during your next trip to Vegas or some other gambling mecca which believes in betting on American sports (like Baseball or Sports Trivia Football). This week’s shout out goes to Doug (which is often as he supplies 19 out of the first 25 reviews we’re going through these first weeks of Game Gear reviews!) As the Game Gear rolls from it’s start to near the end of it’s “generation” run, we see change beginning to affect this franchise. SEGA founds a specific branch for sports game, SEGA Sports, which will handle their sports franchise until the end of the SEGA Game Gear. The game is improved over the 1993 version (when it was still the SEGA), gwith it’s gameplay improving to the best it can be (short of a possible 1996 Edition). Solo mode is now called Exhibition mode, otherwise the gameplay options from the 1993 version are still present here in the 1995 version. Versus, Pennant Race, and team editor. I’m sure there’s probably improvements on this too but I’m not enough of a baseball game player to note the minute differences between the technical aspects of 1993 and 1995 versions. So I won’t even try noting the differences. So let’s talk about the improvements over 1993. Players on your team are very proactive when the ball is hit out. Sometimes you do have to run it down, but for the most part the team will field and make important plays better than previously (which is better for you as you can rely on your team AI more than you could in the other two reviews). The game plays at a nice quick pace, meaning you’ll not feel a slowdown once you start playing this, the energy keeping you going from start to end of each game. Add to that a better control feel, easier to pick off runners as they scurry back to safety of base, and an overall solid gameplay over the other two reviews makes this game the best of the three games I reviewed this week. Top of my list of recommendations for both your traveling kit of Game Gear games… (as if you’d actually travel with this bulky thing)… and your best choices for sports games. 4 points scoring a win for World Series Baseball 1995 out of 5. Great job!
