Okay peeps this thread is for all the films and dvd's you have purchased recently and the films you have watched this week.

Rather than just posting a list of the films you have watched please give us your thoughts on them and hopefully other members can give feedback too.

If you think a film deserves its own thread then by all means start one - this has not been started to take the place of these sorts of threads it is just to encourage more discussion and posting in this folder.

I have watched Prizzi's Honor and Return of the King recently too.

Prizzi's Honor is always highly regarded but it is a very weak Nicholson film in my opinion. As comedies go it just wasn't funny and considering the quality of the cast none of them delivered. Hugely disappointing.

Return of the king loses its impact on the small screen and watching it for a second time you really notice how bad some of the dialogue is. However the set pieces are still jaw dropping and the trilogy as a whole is an amazing cinematic feat.

I think if I wasn't in to so many different types of films I would struggle to pick up that many DVD's. I will watch absolutely anything at least once.

LOTR: The Return of the King

The only dvd of this week, but boy what a week!

The experience in the cinema was too loud, too long and too difficult to watch.

Bring it to the 36" surround sound home cinema, and you will be pleasantly enlightened as to the quality of this film.

I enjoyed it tonnes more and felt all the things i should have felt in the cinema.

I still get goosebumps at the Ride of the Rohirrim and the chase in Shelobs' lair, and the graphics are unsurpassed. Although very gay and cheesy, the films symbolism and representation is nothing short of incredible, and its combination of scale and power take my breath away.

This is a classic, and a perfect finish to one of the greatest trilogies ever made.

okay stuff ive bought and watched.

dungeons and dragons (the animated series) cant go wrong there

legally blonde 2 AWFUL nuff said
hollywood homicide AWFUL but not as bad as the one above

Thriteen Extremely depressing as it reminds me alot of my two sisters and what my family has been through
timelines WTF afwul massacred the book
and a film that was obviously so memorable i cant remember the title
oh and shame on me I went to see the new harry potter movie Which SUCKED the prisoner of azkaban book is my favourite one out of all the books so far and It was utterly destroyed in the film adaptation.

well thats it for now, but its my birfday tomorrow and im likely to get vouchers so this list will probably be considerably longer tomorrow

Baise-Moi - Why this gets lumped with Irreversible I dont know. This is just utter garbage. Wow it contains some shocking scenes big deal. Funnily enough the scenes are not that shocking just graphic, I think the film makers forget the fact that you dont have to see everything for things to have an effect.

The whole concept is laughable, the direction and script appalling and the acting a joke. The only good thing is it is only 70 minutes long but it is about 70 minutes too long. The film has a reputation soley on the back of its graphic scenes, but as a film it has no redeemable qualities. LOL I sound like some middle aged Daily Mail reader but it really is junk.[/b]

Scorpion King - More rubbish. I wasn't a fan of the Mummy series and this is a poor spin off. Kelly Hu's outfits were good though.

Bound - Lesbian stealing money flick from da wachowski brothers. This film thinks its better than it is. Of course, like all films with lesbians, the guy audience is just waiting for the les sex scene. Although it plays well (i didnt know Gina Gershon had such big tits), its very short. The rest of the film is a chore and frankly so was searching my fathers cabinet to find it.

If i find any more skin flicks ill let you know. Pass on this one.

Taxi 2 - a fun film with some nice action and a few laughs, but not quite as tight as the original, and the DVD I bought had stupid subs that were below the screen so I couldn't read them properly. Glad I only paid £2-3 for it

It worked out to about $26 but with the exchange rate the way it is it only cost £14 which is standard DVD price.

Eye of the beholder - Well this was a surprise. I was expecting a sub standard thriller (is it really a genre or not, who knows) but it turned out to be a pretty clever movie. Both leads deliver good performances and there is some very neat cinematography throughout. The ending only slightly marrs what is a pretty good film.

24 Hour Party People - Brilliant film. It contains some great little cameos and pretty much all the best young actors and comedians in Britain at the moment. A funny film yet also insightful into the whole Factory ethos. Plus it has a brilliant soundtrack.

Yes indeedy. Steve Coogan is probably my favorite British comedy actor, and this his best film. His Tony Wilson is spot-on.

He sounds just like him. Its a shame he doesn't look a little more like him though. Still a very good performance even if he did occasionally slip into Alan Partidge mode.

I was expecting him to come out with a line like 'Back of the net' or something. I loved the God sequence though. Its the sort of film I can see me watching regularly.
