Celebrity - How does Woody Allen manage to get the people he does to do his films because essentially they are all the same film just with less decent jokes. Annie Hall was a great film but all the other films of his I have seen have been self indulgent pieces of crap. In this film he just gets Kenneth Branagh to play Woody Allen, the whole film is very empty and pointless, although perhaps that is the point as it mirrors Celebrity.

The Ninth Configuration - I had to turn this off 30 minutes in because it irritated me so much and I rarely stop watching films. I hear the second half is supposed to be much better so when I am in a more tolerant mood I will return to it.

Well hopefully I can introduce you to some new films then, although most of the ones I have mentioned in this thread have been crap - but I am sure I will get to some good ones soon. I hope.

As Good as it Gets - I know Cookie doesn't like this one, but I really enjoed it. A romantic comedy with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt, where Nicholson plays an compulsive-obsessive jackass who just can't stop insulting everyone. Trails off a little towards the end, but the first half is great fun. Ironically about as good as chick flick gets.

Yeah - twice. It's alright, but totally overrated IMHO.

A film that steals a plotline from Coronation Street can't be all that.

The gnome/postcard plot was a Crononation Street original - I kid you not.

Look it up and see for yourself.

But that is only a tiny subplot, I thought you were saying the general plot was nicked from the Street.

I'd say it's pretty important to the plot as a whole - it's integral to her relationship with her father. The whole movie is memorable because of the strange things she does, of which this was one of the most amusing and well devised little instances. But if I'm being honest, Coronation Street did it a whole lot better because of the advantages of the format and the more easily identifiable characters.

I would say it isnt that integral, in fact I would go as far to say it is probably the only disappointing subplot in the film. It seems rushed and the two's relationship underdeveloped. Amelies relationship with the Man of glass is far more interesting imo.

Cabin Fever - Strange film, if you can stick it til the end, you'll be treated to the best ending in history... oh wait that was Retrun of the Living Dead... ok second best ending ever commited to screen.

DOGMA - I have only recently discovered this film for a fiver at game, on the premise that i liked Jay and Silent Bob strike back. The humour is more placed than ongoing and some scenes are more thriller than comedy, but overall it is cracking. The combination of Linda Fiorentino constantly being reffered to in a sexual way and the fixation with Salma Hayek's breast, which are tres bountiful, is pure genius. The religious theme adds to the sarcasm which keeps comedy throughout. i think it works well and is one of a few of afflecks good performances(there arent many at all).

Lost in Translation - Why does this get the praise that it does? Fine its well acted and the cinematography is nice but it is so slow and boring. Its not funny, I smiled a couple of times but the 'jokes' were obvious and the scenes lasted too long. The relationship between Bob and Charlotte was uninteresting, and both characters just pissed me off to be honest. Charlotte had been in Tokyo for less than a week but just hung around the hotel, and they both found the Japanese 'crazy'. Thats right there are cultures that differ from the US/UK English speaking ones, it doesn't make them weird. The film was just the epitomy of a meh film.

You ungrateful bastard. Scarlett and Murry perform in a film that you are allowed to view with your unholy eyes, and you "meh" it??!?!??! Remember, this film is supposed to be from the perspective of two people who don't naturally reach out for culture. Finding each other is what gave them the motivation and strength to go out into unchartered territory. Remember how Bob goes to the same bar every night? Both characters have to be in Japan due to commitments, not as tourists. Its the concept of being alone amidst a huge crowd. How much better a conceptual surrounding than Tokyo Japan? Not cracking on you. I thought the same thing when I first watched it. Its a subtle taste of film with a beautiful aftertaste.

I get the film I just didnt like it. I understand the sort of people they were but I hate people like that. Those sort of people just wind me up so watching a slow and ultimately uneventful 2 hour film that centres on these types of people just grates. Its just a personal thing.

The Station Agent - The themes are similar to Lost in Translation as both films focus on finding companionship due to isolation (in LIT case it is cultural isolation, with TSA it is geographical isolation). However unlike LIT this film although slow moving is very interesting and heart warming. You care about the characters and their rather mundane existence. It is amusing without ever being laugh out loud funny and it never falls into becoming cheesy even though there were a number of instances it could have easily done so. I am kind of surprised Dinklage wasn't nominated for an Oscar considering more undeserving actors were nominated. Anyway it was great.
