Lone Wolf and Cub - Excellent, first time I had seen it uncut.

Tuvalu - Jov recommended this one. It was compared to Chaplin and Metropolis on the dvd cover but it doesn't quite scale either. Its entertaining and visually impressive but not as good as I had hoped it would be.

Dracula: Pages from a virgin's diary - Shit

Strangers on a train - Cheesy as a real cheesy thing but still has enough classic Hitchcock elements to make it entertaining.

Roadhouse - Patrick Swayze cant aCT, but he can sure kick arse. The ending is weird but i only caught the movie half way through so i had no idea what was going on. Cliche though.

sympathy for mr.vengeance: this is slowly paced, dark as hell revenge flick. a botched kidnap attempt results in all the central characters entering a dwonward spiral of despair. and now that the soundbyte is over... this movie is class. the acting from all the principal characters is superb, and the direction from one of korea's brighest new stars CHAN-WOOK PARK takes him in a completely new direction, rather than the energetic frenetic style PARK was previously known for. this film is a quiet artistic piece which makes the bursts of violence throughout even more shocking than the cold brutality of the characters. if you're after something different from korean cinema try this.

and i got round to it and watched the dunee mini-series. now i am a fan of frank herberts seminal sci-fi books, and i had high hopes for this as it came highly recommended from a good friend, but turns out that it is exactly what it says on the tin a TV mini-series.
nowe i'm not gonna hash over the story here as if you want you can go and read the book but as a show this was a mistake. one of the things about DUNE is that to truly capture the scope of the book it needs a feature films budget, not a tv-special budget.
the SFX were functional but any interaction between live-action and cgi was laughable. the costumes were ridiculous, and most importantly the acting was just bad. to try and fit in as much of the book as possible they have cut out whole parts which would have made some of these scenes understandable or they end up with cheesy voice-over bits.
i think if you're a fan check it out, but dont expect too much or you'll be let down.

Tesis - Although essentially it is a standard thriller it has enough little neat touches to come recommended

Countess Dracula - not Hammer's best. Roughly based around a true story. Sadly the true story is more interesting than the silly version Hammer decided to film here. Still, it has all the visual splendour that Hammer great.

Kingpin - used to be one of my favourite comedies, but it doesn't stand up to repeat viewings well.

Drop Dead Gorgeous - a fake documentary following a small-town American beauty pagent. Thre are some funny moments, but the central character was a waste of space and the jokes about the retard were just embarassing. Would have been better if they'd stuck to a more realistic documentary format with a less obvious script.

Godzilla vs Hedorah - every bit as strange as I remember. Psychadelic club scenes, subtly disguised political messages, some fantastic animation and two guys in rubber suits. Classic!

Striptease - Not a film for the lonely dateless nights. A terrible attempt to utilise an actual plot sees some comedy, not enough boobs for a porno, and Demi Moore whilst being uber hot, doesnt really commit to what is an outlandishly shit movie. Burt Reynolds just makes a fool of himself.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil - Fantastic film. Watched three times in a row, stands the rewatch test. Gene Wilder is the same as in other movies but he can really do it well, Richard Pryor is amazing as being a blind man, its flawless. One of the best comedies ever.

I finally got around to watching Zatoichi. It had been on my shelf for months but it said it was 215 minutes in length so I never had the time to watch it. Then I find out the time on the box refers to the extras as well so the actual feature is just under 2 hours. All those wasted months. Anyway its excellent, the musical numbers are very remeniscent of Dancer in the Dark and work perfectly, there is also a lot of humour throughout the film (I loved the village idiot). The combat was great too and it was nice to see it so economical. The one criticism I have with it is that it lacks real character depth with only the two naruto family members offered any real development. That said it was one of the most entertaining 2 hours I have had in a while.

Plus Pieces of April - Nice US indy film. Good cast, marred by a very cheesy ending.

In the mood for love - Just beautiful.

Noi Albinoi - There were some very good elements to the film. The performances were strong, the ending good and some scenes were quite funny but I dont think it was consistent enough throughout to warrant watching again.

Whale Rider - Distinctly average. Not sure why it gets the praise it does.

Waking Life - The animation style gave me a headache so I had to stop watching.

Well, I guess this film isn't the sum of its parts. Then again, you're not a JC fan :P

got around to watching cowboy bebop movie yeaterday. thought it was pretty damn good. havent seen the series though anyone know if its available in the UK.
also finished waytching the nadesico series. really liked that. preferred it to eva, just thought it held together better than the crazyness that eva went into. just got the nadesico movie left to watch.

The CB series isn't available on DVD, but you can get the Nadesico movie. It's not as good as the series, but it's a must watch for Nadesico fans all the same. My review - http://www.animeboredom.co.uk/anime-rev ... movie/180/

I'm glad someone else prefers Nadesico to Eva! :D

well i watched nadesico - prince of darkenss last night and i can say itr was pretty cool but just lackiong in some areas. main problem was trying to pack too much into the feature.
i ending was also quite hauuird with akito just dissapearing. no explanation of that lapis lazuli child. just opened up a bunch of other questions. but it was still a good film and would recommend it to fans of the series.
huxleys review pretty much sums it up
