Blockbusters in trouble?

Postby Shabbir » Sat Apr 11, 2009 4:51 pm

Has anyone read the news that Blockbuster might be in a little trouble and could potentially be forced to shut down soon? I read an article but I was trying to find it again with no luck.

There'll be thousands of rental stores just waiting to be bought up...hope someone can step in and take over because I really don't like Love Film.

I actually like Blockbuster, there's one across the road from me and when I have more free time I actually do go and rent movies and games, it's a very good service. I don't think there are many remaining high street rental places left now. Everything is shifting to online which is a shame, because with Blockbuster I can just walk to the shop when I feel like watching something, and get it there and then. When it's online, you don't have that instant gratification.

Couldn't agree more. I've just finished a trial with Love Film and I can't say I'm too impressed. Their priority system for discs is just messed up (they seemed to send me films I'd set as low priority on a regular basis), they'll only send you one disc from a boxset at a time (inc extras discs, which is just stupid) and their pricing scheme isn't as generous as it might first appear.

Also, Blockbuster had some pretty good ex-rental sales and I picked up plenty rooting around in there. Online rental sucks :(

I hope not. Blockbuster accounts for about half the video games I review on any given month. That'd be bad. Very bad. (Where else am I going to find cheap pre-played video games to review!!)

(Maybe except for the X-Men Origins : Wolverine game? They like, wow, they financially shagged me for that review and it was at best only a halfway decent title? Damn.)

I also like Blockbusters for selling second hand games - not many places do that anymore and Blockbusters is the only one close to me that does it. Very useful for picking up good deals at times, unlike Game who sell their second hand games for more than retail price of brand new games!

Every time I walk in Game I wonder why I bothered in the first place. I've actually used their website a couple of times because they offer really fast free shipping (and better prices), but on the highstreet I usually try to find a Gamestation or independent store first.
