Witch Hunter Robin OST
By Marq Mosier 26th May 05 Unlike many people apparently, I actually enjoy the Witch Hunter Robin series. When I first watched a couple of episodes fan-subbed, I had high hopes for the series. When the DVDs were finally released in the U.S., they were not as good as I was hoping for, but I still enjoyed them none the less. One aspect of the show that I am fond of is the music, so I decided to give the OST a rundown, and here it is. Since the booklet does not really have much of note, and the artwork is capped from the show, I’ll get right to the rundown of the tracks on the disc. 1.“Robin” ~ Great intro track that really sets a great mood for the disc 2.“Plot” ~ A very ominous sounding track that follows “Robin” quite well 3.“Tactics” ~ The first aggressive sounding song on the disc. Heavy drums and strings are the theme here 4.“Sneak” ~ Sounds just like the title implies, really cool and dark sounding 5.“Kyrie” ~ Excellent song with some great operatic sounding vocals, and nice subtle guitar work towards the end 6."Marvelous” ~ Ummm…pretty boring and empty 7.“Discord” ~ Pretty short, not much to it 8.“Dragnet” ~ Fast, rhythmic beats make this one a winner. The strings are used well too 9.“Underground Passage” ~ Super slowdown after “Dragnet” 10.“Inspection” ~ Nice change of pace, guitar is really the highlight here 11.“Harry’s” ~ Very nice, quiet piece, with a simple piano as the focus 12.“STN” ~ Ambient and very minimalist sounding, good stuff 13.“Open Your Eyes” ~ Reminiscent of “Harry’s”, or maybe it’s just me… 14.“Dancing Type” ~ Whoa! Loud, where did the grinding guitars come from?! 15.“Flame” ~ Noticeably different from the rest of the disc, with Spanish influenced guitars (mandolins maybe). Long and extremely well put together 16.“Shadow” ~ Awesome! I love this 17.“Outrageous” ~ Another incredible song. Has an industrial feel to it. This is really picking up 18.“Large Crowd” ~ Aggghhhh, what is this noise?! 19.“Flashback” ~ Starts off pretty boring, but picks up, still not great though 20.“Allay Pain” ~ An instrumental take on the beautiful closing theme to the show, “Half Pain” 21.“Silence” ~ Very simple, pretty piece Bonus Tracks 22.“Shell (T.V. Edit) ~ The opening theme from the show, I always found it to be a great intro song personally 23.“Half Pain (T.V. Edit) ~ Absolutely the reason to own this OST. The closing theme, and a great ending to the disc Overall: 8.0
I enjoy most of the tracks on this disc, especially the last four. There are some slow spots, and a couple of songs that I skip altogether, but overall it is very good. If you are looking for something a bit slower, with an overall darker mood to it, then this would be a good pick up for you. There are also a considerable number of songs that are over two minutes, which can be rare in the realm of anime OSTs. A good investment I would say.
