Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu Volume 2 Full Metal Fracas!
By noghri 17th Oct 05 After enjoying the first volume of Fumoffu I was happy to receive the second volume, the first three episodes set the pace with manic non-stop action. I couldn’t wait to see what this volume had to offer. To be honest it is actually funnier. I found myself laughing right the way through this volume. As expected here doesn’t appear to be any sort of continuing plot similar to most kinds of follow up series or OVA. I keep coming back to draw comparisons with other series, but the best example I can come up with is the Love Hina summer and spring specials, although nothing to do with the actual plot in generall, they are just an excuse to fall head long into the comedy action found in the series. This is exactly what Fumoffu achieves, it is just straight to the comedy and no messing. The action is really entertaining, the first episode starts off with an art field trip with the topic of humans and nature. Sousuke is selected to be a model and if informed to be one with nature and blend in with the plants. He takes it upon himself to remain hidden from class 4 and to camouflage himself to the best of his abilities. This turns into an effected battle between class 4 and himself, they need to draw the model, but what exactly do you do when the model runs from you to remain hidden? How about falling for all his traps that he lays to hinder the class. This as you can imagine leads to a crazy episode where only Chidori can out manoeuvre Sousuke. The second half of the episode is personally the best part of this volume. Kaname goes on a date to a theme park called Fumoffu land, Sousuke suspects foul play and when the trouble starts assumes the best form of camouflage I have seen. The insanity that ensues had me in stitches. The next episode sees Sousuke and Kaname taking on the task of evicting the karate club from the now condemned dojo. This leads onto the second episode where the karate captain and Sousuke have to make up for an accidental injury to the school janitor. The final episode in the volume tells a tale of a hunt for a sex offender who is obsessed with giving girls pony tails, this of course means that he has to wear a horses head and can only say ‘pony’. Kaname is to act as bait for a police officer that just happens to have lost her position in the traffic squad for destroying her car while trying to catch Sousuke in the first volume. Meanwhile, Sousuke takes up the guise of a certain fair ground attraction called Bonto-kun again to try and stop the perpetrator while avoiding the police officers attention. The climactic battle results in the accidental arrest of the sex offender. Overall I would say that this volume is actually better than the first, the episodes in general are funnier and there is also more action. The fact that they split up the action into half episodes works a lot better in this volume than the last, and the episodes with bonta-kun are the funniest things ive seen in a while. If the anime series continues like this I would recommend it to all viewers, and although there is little in the way of storyline and in my personal opinion it is not as good as the original series, im pleased to say that it appears this acorn has not fallen too far from the tree. This series is definitely one to pick up. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu Volume 2 Full Metal Fracas!
