Cowboy Bebop
By Lyndonimus 27th Apr 04 Thanks to the remarkable technology that is the Internet I am able to bring to you a review of the anime series that is Cowboy Bebop. I have heard the US dubbed version is none to great, but luckily I have been able to download the original [uncut] Japanese version with subtitles. Me, I love subtitles, I prefere subs to dubbed so I'm a happy bunny. So, here we are Cowboy Bebop, TV series. Not too violent you would think seeing as it has made it's way to US soil [but not UK =(], but damn it is violent, and it's funny. The story revolves around the protaganist Spike, who is accompanied by Jet, Faye, Ed and pet dog Ein. This unlikely company are a bunch of bounty hunters [Cowboys] who by some means ended on Jet's Ship the BeBop. While out of the 26 episodes 95% of them tend to be a 'different episode each week' affair, randomly placed throughout 24 episodes are hints into the past life of the main cast, with the final 2 being the climax of Spike's past caught up with him. This series is littered with some fascinating Kung Fu action, gun slinging, car chases, foot chases, space races etc. This series seems to have contained everything that any anime fan could want in a series. The animation is smooth as silk and is combined with CGI in some cases. Generally anime series re-use cells and the animation gets really shoddy during later episodes, however this is not the case with Cowboy BeBop. The animations holds itself throughout the whole series with no obvious re-use of cells [if there were, I never noticed!]. Overall Cowboy BeBop has something for everyone and is definetely a series you should look into, especially with a film release looming on US shores. Go see, go see! 9/10
