Chobits
By squink 10th Jun 04 Chobits is a wonderful anime, based on the 8 manga volumes of the same name. Its about a boy named Hideki who goes to cram school in order to get into college. So he moves from his country home to Tokyo where everyone has these computerised assistants known as persocoms (basically humanoid PCs) Well he really wants one, but being a student could never afford the expensive prices. However he soon discovers one in the trash, a very beautiful girl with long white hair, and takes her home. He activates her eventually after finding the on switch (im not gonna tell you where that on switch is, lets just say its somewhere VERY personal) And the persocom comes alive. The problem is all she can say is Chi. So that is what he names her From that point on the anime goes from strength to strength as Hideki learns to live with Chi. He gets nose bleeds on a regular basis as Chi keeps coming across Hideki's porn collection and she keeps copying poses and stuff out of the books. Hideki begins to fall in love with Chi, but it's a pure innocent kind of love, as Chi is nothing more than a child, learning everything from scratch as she has no software. (or so it seems) The plot thickens as more characters are added, and by the end they are all paired off with each other, leaving Hideki and chi to be together. Chi has a hidden program inside of her that means only the one truly for her can ever be with her, and she falls for Hideki completely knowing that he is the one for her, Hideki tries to resist as he doesn't know whether a computer and a person could ever truly love one another, but eventually everything becomes right and they all live happily ever after. The music in this anime is beautiful and I found myself skipping back scenes just to listen to the music again. The animation too is very beautiful, with chi in numerous fancy outfits. One thing I would say is that the manga is better and it wont take over 600 minutes to complete. To fully understand what's going on in the anime its probably better if you accompany it with the manga.
